    Abstract

    DO and BOD value measurement are pollutant organic indicators very influential to recognize level of Surabaya River quality. The purpose of this research is estimating mathematical model closer by characteristic of Surabaya River quality. This research done by analyzing of physicochemical that are Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), pH and temperature. While self purification mathematical model used are Streeter-Phelps model (1925) and O’Connor-Dobbins model (1956). From this research got that Surabaya River have deoxygenating coefficient range 0,03 – 1,15 / day, reaeration coefficient range 0,7 – 3,9 / day, DO saturation range 7,253 – 7,357 mg/l and dispersion coefficient range 0,217 – 4,474 m2/detik. Those coefficient very influencing water quality model calculations, from Streeter-Phelps model either O’Connor-Dobbins model. Model that more approaching Surabaya River condition is O’Connor-Dobbins model, because estimated error average value of O’Connor-Dobbins model smaller are 0,19 for DO and 3,14 for BOD, while Streeter-Phelps model are 0,61 for DO and 5,16 for BOD. At longer distance, ability of self purification river will be better, with river condition without input from outside.
