    Abstract

Rhetoric is an effective way to build possitive images in front of the public. Political rhetoric can be defined as a persuasion strategy to convince others. Different from propaganda, which lead to coercion and tend to end discussion, rhetoric uses high level of language to form the art of speech. The government is common to use rhetoric to block negative opinion, especially when relating to controversial issues. One controversial issue ressembled in 2007, was the United Nation’s1747 sanctioned resolution towards the Republic of Iran. The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmanidejad disappointed with Indonesian government who chose to be agreed to the sanctioned resolution. The Indonesian’s House of Representative, was also concerned with governments weakness towards America hence promoted the act of interpellation. In response to this, both government and the member of representative gave both rhetorical arguments in mass media, including TEMPO, one of the most prominent news magazines in Indonesia in April 2007 edition. These arguments would be analyzed using Aristoteles’ rhetorical framework.
