    Ornamental shrubs played a role as an element of the cities streetscape. Facing polluted condition of the busy city, they may be sensitive or tolerant plant. The sensitive ones exhibit characteristic foliar injury following exposure to an air pollution. But the tolerant plants were able to recovery or stay in a health. Air pollution tolerance level of the plants was standing by an Air Pollution Tolerance Index (APTI). The low level tolerance plants were used as a phytoindicator. In addition to acting as fitoindikator, some plants known to demonstrate the phenomenon of hormesis of certain pollutants, namely the existence of a positive response to pollutants at low doses, but showed a negative response at high doses. Positive responses are indicated by an increase in plant growth and biological processes. This study is conducted to measure APTI level of some streetscape ornamental shrubs to determine for the species that can be phytoindicators of urban air pollution. Three species of ornamental shrubs, those are Mussaenda sp, Ruella tuberosa, and Ipomoea sp., were determines as a phytoindicator model for the experimental of some sulphurdioxide concentrations exposure. The results showed that the three ornamental shrubs belong to the criteria sensitive to air pollution, based on the results of calculating the value of APTI (Air Pollution Tolerance Index). Nusa Indah APTI value, Ruelia and Ubi Hias respectively 9.12, 9.16 and 9.34. The treatment increased the concentration of SO2 gas exposure causes a decrease in the value of APTI, a decrease in leaf water content, decrease in total leaf chlorophyll content, and decreased levels of ascorbic acid leaves. Nusa Indah in addition showed the lowest value of APTI, visually also showed symptoms of damage (necrosis) on leaves and flowers in the treatment of exposure concentration of 10 ppm SO2. Symptoms of hormesis is indicated by the three plants at a concentration of 0.1 ppm SO2 exposure, with a pattern of elevated levels of ascorbic acid and total chlorophyll content in leaves, before the pattern of decline at higher levels.
