Abstract
Most of the hospitals in Surabaya using Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for wastewater treatment. The addition of coconut fibers media can increase performance 20%. But at a certain moment the media is often either settle or float on the phase of aeration and setling phases. Purpose The research was to determine the size of the media, phase of charging and time aeration to get the level of removal COD, N (TKN) and P (PP) which best. Waste water used was of waste water Haji Hospital Surabaya. Implementation of the running test conducted with two repetitions, with the conditions of growth of microorganisms on the start-up period, after going through the process of acclimatization. Coconut fibers are added to the media as much as 40 grams. Variation of the treatment consists of static fill, aerated fill, aeration time variation of 2 hours, 4 hours and 8 hours on 3 compartments and 1 compartment of control. 2 hours of setling time and the variation of medium size coconut fibers 5, 10 & 20 mm with a thickness of 1 mm. The results showed, operational moving bed of coconut fiber media in SBR for treating hospital wastewater can operate better when fewer deposits formed and floating media during aeration process takes place occurs in the size of the coconut fiber media suspended 10 mm, static fill system and aeration cycle 8 hours. Removal occurs in the start up period for the parameter of 60.94% COD, N (TKN) by 73.03% and 89.27% of P (PP). Keywords :SBR, coconut fibers media, hospital wastewater
