    Abstract

    Along with the development of the age, then the human need for a product is also increasing. This causes the existing industries in Indonesian grow to rapidly as the produce of liquid waste. Therefore, the government built an industrial estate that accomodates all the waste disposal. One of the pollutants that often found in industrial wastewater are BOD5 and Phenol. BOD5 represent organic loads contained in wastewater, while Phenol is a compound that is toxic and harmful to humans. The purpose of this research is decrease BOD5 and Phenol levels using biological trickling filter technology by varying flow rate and media thickness to get the most optimum result. The beginning of this process is by growing biofilm on media, this process includes seeding or breeding of natural bacteria and acclimatization or biofilm adaption process to wastewater. The result of this research shows that the most optimum flow discharge is 100 mL/minute and 50 cm thickness of media which can decrease BOD5 to 86,9% and Phenol content is 54,3%.
