    Abstract

Bulrush is an alt~rnative raw material to produce bioethanol, through acid hydrolysis process, fermentation and batch distillation. Bulrush avaibility can be obtained continuesly ~d abundantly, n:presenting one of the' crops which l~ss is exploited. Bulrush is only used as hvest?ck food, sometimes it is olso considered to be an mtruder crop. But bulrush has cellulose content which. can be used as one of the materials which produces ethanol. Up to now the word ethanol consumptIon h.as been. about' 63 % for fuel, especially iIi Brazil, North America, Canada, United Europe and AustralIa. In Asia, Japan and South Korea the biggest ethanol consumpti~~ is for liquor. ° , . _ Hydrolysis proc, ess in this reseach used constant condItion: tem?erature 30 C, water volume 700 ml, reseach variablt?: hydrolysis time 2 until 3 hom:s, bulrush w~lghts. 50, 100, 150, 20'0, 250 (gram), volume HCl 10, ~O, .30, 40, 50(ml). FermentatlOn process m thIS resea.ch u.sed constant condition: teinperature 20 up to 30°C, pH 4,5; filtrate volume 250 ml, resea~h .van.able. 4, 5, 6, 7,.8 days; and starter 8, 10, :12 %. Pure ethanol product was obtained by batc~ dlstlllatlOn proc~ss. ThIS research resulted in hydrolysis process has the best glucose content 26.29 ~, ~ bulrush weIght 2~0 am and HCI volume 20 ml. Fermentation process has saccaromyces CereVISlae starter content 10 Yo furin~6 days, ethanol Yi~lds 9 up to 12 % before distillation process, residu .glucose con~en~ 8.09 % and after distillation process ethanol yields 96 %. From the tesearch result WhICh was obtam, It can be concluded that: bulrush can be used as an alternative which produces bioethanol.
