Abstract

Cino Pecinan Suroboyo book is an idea about the importance of preservation of Chinese culture in the Surabaya city, which has begun to be forgotten by today's society . This is unfortunate , considering the number of Chinese elements in the Chinatown area is already attached and can blend in with Surabaya less known by the public, especially the younger generation of indigenous and even by the next generation of Chinese society. Sources of information contained in this design is based from literature books and in-depth interview process to a resource that is closely related to the Chinese community in the city of Surabaya . The process of designing a book Cino Chinatown Suroboyo not be separated from the rules of visual communication design theory relating to the design of a book . The design focuses on a Chinese culture in Surabaya that some of them have started to be replaced with the development at this time . Elements of Cino Pecinan Suroboyo book using the theories of Charles Sanders Pearce discusses the meaning or perception that arises from a sign located on a photograph shown to the reader in this book. Visual communication design theory in this book include study design layout, typography study, and the study of the overall aspects of photography that be adapted to the target segment has been choosed. Cino Pecinan Suroboyo book also due to the absence of acculturation among the Chinese community with the people of Surabaya was good in terms of cultural, religious, and social communities. The contents of the book will be dominated by photography depicting the visual aspects of Chinese in Surabaya. Expected that the presence of this design can provide information to the public regarding the ethnic Chinese in the Chinatown district of Surabaya and can foster a love of the culture.
