Abstract
Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia, located on the front of the water. As along as the population growth, fulfillment of basic needs is a burden mainly residential city government. The impact of residential needs, the city experienced a change in land use increased from open land into built land. This study aims to analyze the potential for flooding that occurs due to changes in various land use in urban areas. The study includes four stages : (1) Pre survey covering secondary data collection activities (2) field surveys in the form of secondary data checking, (3) Measurement of physical properties in a variety of land use (4) Analysis of the potential for flooding on various land uses. The results showed that the addition of residential of population growth in a hedge, which means it will transform open land into built land, resulting in increased land up and decreased open land. The land changes a lot done on sub urban. In observation of flooding in urban areas showed expansion with increasing land up. Characteristics of physical properties in Surabaya is a clayey loam to sandy clay loam in soil texture. It means adequate potential water storage, poor drainage, low air system and difficulty in root penetration. On soil organic matter content ranged from 0.89 to 1.77 percent. A low content organic matter is in East, South and West Surabaya, while in the Surabaya region of North and Central is very low organic matter content ranges from 0.48 to 0.79 percent.
